Finding My Spiritual Home at CEFC
Dear brothers and sisters,
My name is Wang Wei, and you may also call me Winnie. I would like to share how God led me to Covenant Evangelical Free Church (CEFC) and how I eventually registered as a member last December.
A Little Background
I am married with three young boys, and my mother lives with us. My husband and I both grew up in China and later moved to Singapore, where I have been living for more than ten years.
I received Christ and was baptized in 2004, during my final year at university. Since then, my understanding of “church” has always been very personal. It was never merely a religious place to me, but a family—small, cozy, and warm. We shared daily devotions, prayed together for our future jobs, marriages, and important life decisions. Many significant turning points in my life were shaped through that fellowship.
Feeling Lost, Searching for Home
After moving to Singapore, however, things changed. There were many churches, and I gradually felt lost. I visited different churches but, for various reasons, was unable to commit to any of them.
Last year, as COVID spread rapidly across the world, I found myself confused and emotionally drained. During that season, I realized that I could not walk my faith journey alone—I needed a spiritual home. I began praying earnestly that God would lead me to a church He had prepared for me.
God’s Gentle Leading to CEFC Hua Xia
I started this prayer journey in May, and by July, I joined the CEFC Hua Xia YouTube services. In August, Ps John Chen, Sister Ling Ling, and Lilian—the sister who introduced CEFC Hua Xia to me—visited my family.
When Ps John Chen prayed for my husband, who was between jobs at that time, I was deeply touched. It felt as though I had returned to my university fellowship. They did not come to teach or instruct me; instead, they sought to understand—my struggles, concerns, family, and faith. That care extended not only to me, but also to my entire family, whether they were believers or not.
Growing Through Alpha Course
My journey at CEFC Hua Xia would not be complete without mentioning Alpha Course. I first joined Alpha Chinese as a translator and later served in different roles across various teams. Through Alpha, I came to know brothers and sisters from different centers and services, and I was deeply inspired by their passion and determination to bring the gospel to as many people as possible, both online and offline.
Alpha also reshaped my understanding of ministry. At one point, I felt discouraged by the low number of registrations. A sister gently reminded me, “Do you think Jesus would not die if there were only one person in the world?”
That sentence stayed with me. Every soul is precious before the Lord. I am truly grateful for the opportunity to serve alongside the Alpha team.
A Place to Grow and Belong
After the first round of Alpha concluded, I made the decision to register as a member of CEFC Hua Xia.
Like my student fellowship years ago, Hua Xia has witnessed significant changes in my life. When my husband returned to work in September, I decided to resign and become a full-time stay-at-home mother. Throughout this season, my Hua Xia sisters have prayed with me, supported me, and walked alongside me. We share our weaknesses openly and strengthen one another in faith.
Today, CEFC Hua Xia is truly my spiritual home—a place where I belong, grow, and am loved as family.
Thank you for listening to my sharing.
